How to Measure Ring Size at Home

Here are three easy methods to measure your ring size without using our free sizer:

  • The String Method
  • Using a Printable Ring Sizer
These methods require the Ring Sizer & Conversion Chart. To print the chart for the second and third steps, set your print options to "100" page scaling and use standard 8.5 x 11-inch paper.

Method 1: Create Your Own Ring Sizer

What You'll Need:Printer & Paper
String, yarn, floss, or a thin piece of paper.
Pen or Marker
Ruler
Steps:
1. Cut a string, yarn, floss, or thin strip of paper at least three inches long.
2. Loop one end of the thread around the base of the intended finger.
3. Using a pen or marker, indicate where the end of the string overlaps the remainder.
4. Lay the string flat and use a ruler to measure the distance between the end and your mark in millimeters.
5. Use the Ring Size Conversion Chart to convert the millimeter length to the appropriate ring size.

Method 2: Print a Ring Sizer

What you will require:
Paper and printer
Cutlery
Actions:
1. Get the Printable Conversion Chart and Ring Sizer. In your print options, set page scaling to "100" and utilize normal 8.5 x 11-inch paper.
2. As directed, cut out the slot and the ring sizer.
3. Insert the pointed end of the paper ring sizer through the slit you made in the sizer and wrap it snugly around the base of the desired finger so that the numbers are visible.
4. Your ring size is shown by the number that coincides with the slit. If your sizer shows that you are in between whole and half sizes, keep in mind that quarter sizes are also available.

Ring Size Tips

Our dominant hands are usually larger, so be sure to measure the hand on which you'll wear the ring.

  1. Consider the ring’s design, as wider bands tend to fit more snugly. For thicker bands (>4mm), you might want to size up by at least half a size, while very thin bands (<1.3mm) may require sizing down. Remember, ring sizes are generally measured in millimeters (mm), not inches.
  2. Make sure your body temperature is normal; fingers shrink when cold and swell when warm.
  3. Finger size fluctuates throughout the day based on hydration and diet; the ideal time to measure is in the middle or toward the end of the day.
